This. Is. Me.
Born and raised all over the eastern US, I have grown to be an adaptable and outgoing person. These qualities have carried me far and will continue to help me strive to do the best I can wherever I end up. By learning to adapt quickly to new surroundings, whether it is a school or business, has helped me grow as a person and created this drive to succeed in whatever situation I'm in.
I have always loved writing and communicating with the English language. I didn't know where this love would take me in life, so I didn't make any plans during high school. It was during my junior year that I figured out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life by editing the school newspaper.
With my parents not being to keen on me becoming a professional truck driver and traveling the country, I set my sights on a Journalism degree. I attended West Virginia University and received my bachelor's degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. College was another period of time where I felt myself growing and maturing. During my sophomore year, my family made yet another move to Kingsport, Tennessee from Pittsburgh. I was now 6 hours away from the people I had spent my whole life with up until this point. In order to get through those years, I learned to time manage, prioritize and get my life in order.
After graduating from WVU in 2010 with honors and a 4.0 in my field, I planned on moving to Kingsport with my family. I didn't have a job lined up yet, so moving was a-ok with me. With how much I loved WVU, I decided to take that next step to further my education and put myself through the most stressful two years of my life: grad school. I applied to East Tennessee State University and attended on a full scholarship.
Grad school was where I found myself. I figured out I could literally do anything I put my mind too and overcome whatever life threw at me. During my first semester, unbeknownst to me, I had taken the three toughest professors according to my fellow students. I attempted to achieve everything they wanted from me and put myself on full power 24/7. While pleasing the professors that have the ultimate say in whether you pass or fail is very important, my priorities were skewed.
Yes, grad school was important to me. Yes, I prided myself on giving 110% all the time. No, I didn't foresee coming down with the deadly combo of mono and walking pneumonia. I had put what was important at the top of my list but neglected to realize that if I wasn't at the top of my list, nothing below me would ever be completed to the best of my ability.
So I powered through being sick and made myself a promise that I have still kept today: If I feel great, I do extraordinary work.
I graduated ETSU in 2012 with my master's in Professional Communication and the most wonderful experiences. I wouldn't trade those classes I took and those professors and classmates for any other experience.
I love to write. I love to relay messages to the world through the written word. The Public Relations field has given me this opportunity and I'll always try my best to be making a change in the world everyday.
All this to say, I am a driven and enthusiastic individual with a world of potential.
I continue to strive for better and do the absolute best job I can.
